Extending the Value of Application Performance Monitoring (APM)

May 13, 2013 | Cloud Migration, Data Center Relocation, Load Testing, Mobile, Performance Lessons Learned, Virtualization

APM is a $2 billion market, and in-production monitoring tools are critical to any enterprise's performance management strategy. However, APM is not a substitute for testing. When it comes to delivering better performing applications, APM is not the right tool for the job but it is a needed tool in the software development life cycle. Watch this webcast and hear from two APM and network virtualization experts on how you can extend the value of your APM investments:

  • find issues before customers are impacted
  • reduce unexpected downtime or slowdowns
  • identify, isolate, and resolve problems faster
  • improve application performance

Five Risks of Data Center Relocations and How to Avoid Them

May 08, 2013 | Data Center Relocation

A recent Shunra study determined the challenges that were most on the mind of performance engineers in 2013. Over 300 performance specialists were asked about their concerns and approaches to performance testing. Data center relocations and consolidations was the third highest concern when it comes to ensuring performance – 42% of respondents indicated DCR performance as a top concern. The only projects receiving more votes were cloud migration and mobile app deployments. One thing each of these projects, or concerns, have in common is the amount of planning that should go into them before any changes are made. On this webinar, we will discuss planning as a critical and invaluable step in the process.

Watch this recorded webcast as we reveal five risks of data center relocations, and what you can do to avoid them.

Transforming Legacy Applications - A federal mandate for software assurance

April 04, 2013 | Partner Series

With the release of the 2013 National Defense Authorization Act, government agencies and departments are tasked with identifying and updating expensive legacy applications into more efficient and usable technologies. While these upgrades are necessary to keep pace with a technologically advanced world, there is also significant budgetary pressure to do more with less.

Network virtualization for software testing solutions incorporates production network behavior into the test process, facilitating precise testing and analysis. This allows organizations to pinpoint performance issues prior to deployment, validate performance levels and SLO/SLA compliance, and quickly tune applications for optimal performance.

Following the recording, viewers will have an understanding of the essential capabilities for virtualizing conditions in a test lab, as well as a methodology to improve testing accuracy and reliability.

Mistakes that Cause Single-Use and Short-Term Apps to Fail

March 20, 2013 | Mobile

A single-use mobile app is built for a short period of time, and for a specific purpose, such as an event, conference registrations, an election, or even selling something (a car, house, etc.). These types of single-use, “perishable” apps have one chance to get it right and not developing for performance can harm your business. Users may lose trust in your brand, or revenue could be lost when an event registration app cannot handle an increase in registrations. Single-use and short-term apps have one chance to deliver business value.

Top performance is essential, and accounting for the various network conditions of your users must be part of your development plan. The shelf life of short-term and single-use apps means that traditional monitoring and remediation will not work – the app will expire before it can be fixed. Watch this webcast and learn how to ensure user expectations are met in the small window of time your app is available.

Beginner's Guide to Improving Performance with Service and Network Virtualization

February 20, 2013 | Cloud Migration, Load Testing, Mobile, Partner Series, Performance Lessons Learned, Virtualization

Service and Network Virtualization allow testing to happen earlier and more often in the application lifecycle (when it is easier and less expensive to fix defects). Issues can be discovered and corrected well before a product is released. IT environments today support hundreds of applications with dependencies on hundreds or more distributed services. This complexity — and the required integration of dependencies and application resources — is placing a burden on development and QA teams responsible for testing and validating application performance. Traditional methods of development and delivery are not effective in attaining high quality application performance in rapid time frames.
  • How can we best face complexity?
  • How can service virtualization lower testing and infrastructure costs?
  • How does network virtualization speed up release cycles?
On this recorded webcast, we answer these questions, introduce you to the essential capabilities for virtualizing conditions in your test lab, and provide you with a methodology to improve testing accuracy and reliability.

Three-Part Strategy for Software Testing

February 15, 2013 | Cloud Migration, Load Testing, Mobile, Partner Series, Performance Lessons Learned, Virtualization

There is a seemingly endless number of industry-recommended best practices and methodologies that promise to improve your organization’s software testing practices. However, the success of any testing approach is dependent on a proven three-part strategy that  is implemented independent of the application, how it is deployed and how it is managed. What is the three-part key to software testing? How does the production environment impact your testing strategy? What are the critical factors that must be considered and incorporated into your test efforts? In this recorded webcast, David Berg, Vice President of Product Strategy at Shunra, answers these questions and defines a three-part strategy for software testing.

Extending Federal IT services to mobile devices has hidden challenges

January 24, 2013 | Mobile

Hosted by HP, this joint webinar with Shunra features:

Federal IT managers and practitioners must think beyond simply developing on particular mobile device platforms or actual mobile device management. Care and consideration must be given to acceptable use policies (AUPs), rapid development cycles, security beyond the firewall, and performance: predicting, simulating and actively monitoring deployed mobile services. In prior segments of our Federal IT transformation webinar series we described how HP better supports standing up Government Hybrid Cloud environments, increases the underlying agility of application development and deployment, and the handling of big data associated with these platforms. One of the major factors that will determine how successful Government will be with Cloud and improving service delivery to their employees and external constituents will be their ability to support mobile devices. In this session, we’ll expand on our DevOps discussion, focusing on end-to-end mobile device performance, from predictive analysis for expected mobile application load across the cloud to simulation of that load and final, deployed, real-time monitoring of those services. Without comprehensive deployment monitoring and management capabilities Government IT managers and practitioners will find their services abandoned more often and errors more costly, initially report to them by their own end-users.

Six Common Myths of Pre-Production Testing

January 08, 2013 | Cloud Migration, Load Testing, Mobile, Virtualization

Your testing strategy should focus on proactively testing and validating application performance with virtualized network conditions before deploying to production. What are some common myths with pre-production testing? On this webinar, we share six common misconceptions of software and application testing. We address the pitfalls of “testing in the wild” and reveal common myths of pre-production testing. We also discuss ways to disprove each myth in this 30-minute webinar.
