Mobile devices accounted for 55% of Internet usage in the United States in January. Apps made up 47% of Internet traffic and 8% of traffic came from mobile browsers, according to data from comScore, cited Thursday by research firm Enders Analysis. PCs clocked in at 45%.

With the holiday retail season now in the rearview mirror, Jumio, Inc. has released its 2013 mobile commerce analysis, finding that retailers celebrated the most successful mobile holiday shopping season to date, yet still missed out on billions of dollars in sales due to the prevalence of outdated mobile payment experiences. While shoppers increasingly took to their smartphones in search of the perfect gift, lost sales were equivalent to over one-quarter (27%) of total mobile commerce profits, according to Jumio's analysis.

According to a new study of global CIOs and IT decision makers, bandwidth requirements and network spending are both increasing. Simultaneously, application problems are also on the rise. Taken together, these results suggest that throwing more bandwidth and more funds at network management isn't working.
